Joseph Crippen Killed in Blackfoot Accident on Merkley Lane and Rich Lane 

Blackfoot, Idaho – Joseph Crippen, 21, of Blackfoot, was among two people killed in a traffic crash on Merkley Lane and Rich Lane in Blackfoot on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Idaho State Police.

The accident took place at around 4:15 p.m. April 6.

According to the authorities, Crippen was driving a 2015 Dodge Caravan south on Merkley Lane when he failed to yield at the intersection and was hit by a 2012 Kenworth semi-truck hauling an empty cattle trailer, which was westbound on Rich Lane.

The impact sent the Dodge into a power pole, and it came to a rest in an irrigation canal.

The semi-truck, which was being driven by Jared King, 39, of Wales, Utah, jackknifed and blocked Rich Lane.

Firefighters responded to the accident and extricated the five occupants of the Dodge.

Crippen was airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Passengers in the Dodge, Harley Childers, 26, of Blackfoot, and two minors, were taken to Bingham Memorial Hospital, where one of the minors died.

Another passenger, Madison Degiulio, 18, was transported by ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center for treatment.

King was not taken to the hospital following the crash.

Authorities had to block Rich Lane for several hours as they worked at the scene.

The Idaho State Police are investigating the accident.
