According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle collision happened just west of Cynthia Drive at about 8:15 a.m. March 9.

MSHP said Kenneth Hall, 26, was operating a dump truck northwest on I-70 Drive when, for an undetermined reason, he swerved off the right side of the roadway.

Hall then overcorrected and drifted across the centerline, before the dump truck collided with an oncoming SUV that was being driven by Ashley Abernathy, 34.

Abernathy was carrying three juveniles at the time of the collision.

The four occupants of the SUV sustained serious injuries and were taken to University Hospital.

Abernathy was reportedly in critical condition by Thursday afternoon.

The occupants of the SUV were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the wreck, authorities said.

The SUV was totaled while the dump truck had extensive damage.

The crash led to the closure of the westbound lane of I-70, just west of Cynthia Drive.

The MSHP is investigating the incident.
