Man Killed, 2 Injured in Clay County Crash on Highway 17 near County Road 15A
Clay County, Florida (March 17, 2022) – A man was killed and two other people injured following a head-on collision that happened early Thursday morning in Clay County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred on Highway 17 near County Road 15A at around 1:30 a.m. 
A 62-year-old Green Cove Springs man was driving north on Highway 17 in southbound lane when he collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck.
The Clay County Deputy vehicle was traveling behind the pickup and crashed into both vehicles after they collided.
The Green Cove Springs man was killed in the crash, FHP said.
The pickup driver, a 42-year-old Glen St Mary man, was rushed to hospital with critical injuries.
The police officer was also taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
The accident prompted the closure of the highway for an unknown period.
No other information regarding the incident was provided.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
