8-Year-Old Girl Killed, Two Other People Seriously Injured in St. Johns County Accident on I-95
St. Johns Count Florida (July 7, 2023) – An 8-year-old girl was killed and two other people were seriously injured after two vehicles collided on Interstate 95 Thursday night, according to FHP.
The deadly accident happened just before 9.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023.
FHP officials say a sport utility vehicle was northbound on I-95 as a semi-truck and second vehicle were stopped because if traffic congestion.
The SUV failed to stop, and swerved to the left to avoid hitting the stopped vehicle. The driver lost control and swerved back toward the center lane where it crashed into the rear of the semi-truck’s trailer.
An 8-year-old girl in the SUV was killed in the crash. A 36-year-old man driving the SUV and a female passenger sustained serious injuries in the crash. Two other children aged 6 months and 3 years, both girls, sustained minor injuries. All victims are from Kannapolis, North Carolina.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 32-year-old man, was not injured.
No additional information regarding the crash was provided. The incident remains under investigation.
